#11 - Dianne McGrath - The Mars One Mission, Space Travel, And Living An Interplanetary Life

This is the first of a two-part interview with Mars One candidate Dianne McGrath. She's currently among the choice 100 in the world who will potentially be selected into a team of 4 people for the first one-way trip to Mars in 2026.

Dianne’s vast experience and incredible work diversity equip her with the skills and demonstrated ability to learn that make her the ideal astronaut candidate. She's an active part of the academic community, speaking in Universities and TED Talks on topics from politics to life sciences, and is currently a Higher Degree by Research Master of Engineering (Environmental Engineering) student at RMIT University. She also likes to run marathons by the way!

In this episode we discuss firstly about Diane's role models, what kicked off her signup for the one-way mission to Mars and why she made the choice. Moving forward the conversation goes into the nuances of interplanetary life and the science behind Mars as the top pick for the first space colony.

#8 - Training For The Pinnacle Of Mountaineering With Gerardo Lopez

This is the second part of our interview with mountaineer Gerardo Lopez. Gerardo started climbing at the age of 12 and since then he has travelled around the world, visiting almost 90 countries and climbing most of highest mountains in America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania.

His most notable achievement to date has been summiting Mount Everest that he accomplished in 2009 becoming, at the age of 30 only the 26th person from Mexico to do so. Over the next year or two, Gerardo would like to take on K2 in Pakistan and do an unsupported crossing in Antarctica.

In this episode we discuss his training and his diet for climb's like Everest, how much experience is needed and most notably his current preparations to climb the world's most dangerous peak and the pinnacle of mountaineering, Pakistan's K2.
